Time to riot
By MAYBELLINE YEO

To all party people, there’s one coming up with a little twist hosted by Vice Modern Disco (V.M.D) that consists of Ethan Chu and DJ Goldfish. The Bang-Mi and Whatever KL launch combo is the party of the week this Wednesday at Maison Club, Jalan Yap Ah Shak in Kuala Lumpur.

This opening showcase offers two brand new club nights that is Bang-Mi and Whatever KL, respectively.

Gene Futon, from Bangkok-based electro-punks Futon, will appear at the Bang-Mi and Whatever KL launch party.
Bang-Mi is basically a new monthly indie/electro night to bring out the hipsters and indie music scene that needs a dedicated night on the main dance-floor.

According to Chu, one of the organisers of the event, the purpose of the new night is to bring bands and deejay groups – both local and overseas – together in order to share and exchange music.

This Wednesday will see Maison Club hosting the indie deejay outfit DudeSweet (Bangkok) and Gene Futon from Thailand's notorious electro-punk group Futon.

Whatever KL is originally from Whatever Bangkok, which is founded by Gene Futon himself, the frontman with a knack for deejay thrills too.

Described by the organisers as an alternative/punk version of an 80s retro party, Whatever KL will bring its audience far away from the usual pop and hip hop music stereotypes. These two events have six months to tap into the indie subculture here and beyond that it will be based on the response towards each event.

Thus the full duration of these two events are still uncertain, so do catch them while you can.

Apart from DudeSweet and Gene Futon, the launch party this Wednesday also features Goldtronic featuring Ara-Byrd, Taufq, Ribut 10:59 and ChaseyLain.

Spectacular visuals provided by Non The Neon Boy (from Bangkok) while Jakarta electro deejay Lxxxtroneek makes a special appearance. Just in case you were wondering, Goldtronic is the new electro deejay moniker for DJ Goldfish.

Though it is held on a Wednesday night, the organisers ensure that ladies night is still on. The difference is rock and indie/electro will be the preferred music from the decks.

It is also a free theme night for everyone who wants to dress up and have fun.

Besides all of this, there's more: free admission all night long and free drinks before 11pm. Doors open at 9pm. Browse www.myspace.com/vicemoderndisco and www.myspace.com/whateverkl.
